Konijnenburg product information

According to product liability law

When assessing the manufacturer's liability and its obligations with regard to its products, all information and notes on Konijnenburg products available in our current catalogue and on our website must be complied with. Failure to comply with them relieves the manufacturer of liability.

1.0 Product information and intended use

Wheels and castors are defined as parts that are interchangeable and can be attached to units, furniture, transport systems or similar products to make them mobile. This product information relates to wheels and castors, in particular passively steered swivel castors, for vehicles and equipment that are temporarily moved by hand (objects) at a speed not exceeding 2.5 mph (4 km/h) and not for permanent use. For the purpose of this product information, wheels and castors are used in the following areas:

  • Residential areas:
    • e.g. seating, household furniture
  • Service sector:
    • general services, e.g. trolleys, office furniture
    • hospitals, e.g. hospital beds
  • Industrial:
    • e.g. transport units for medium and heavy loads

Intended use includes proper installation:

  1. The product must be attached to the object at all available points.
  2. The object must be sufficiently stable at these points.
  3. The installation must not impede or alter the functionality of the product.
  4. Swivel castors must be installed so that they rotate about a vertical axis.
  5. Fixed castors must be installed so that their wheel axes are aligned.
  6. All castors on an object must have the same mounting height. In the case of fixed castors, only those recommended by the manufacturer for this purpose should be installed.
  7. Castors made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPE) contain oil and can cause discolouration of sensitive surfaces. Special versions should be used for wet areas, applications near the sea, equipment exposed to the elements or in aggressive environments that lead to increased corrosion. Unless a further temperature range for standard products is specified in our respective current catalogue or on our website www.Konijnenburg.com, Konijnenburg products are suitable for use in a temperature range between 40 °F (5°C) and 105 °F (30°C). For use outside this temperature range, products must be specifically designed. Standard products should not be exposed to the rated load under these conditions.

The wheel, rig, brake and axle options form a single functional unit. Konijnenburg only accepts liability for original products.

Customers should consider all possible loads when selecting castors. If they are not considered, additional safety factors must be used (see: Load capacity of wheels and castors).

2.0 Incorrect use

The following situations are some examples of incorrect use of wheels and castors:

  1. The wheels and castors are used to carry loads exceeding the maximum load capacity listed on our website catalogue.
  2. The product is used on an unsuitable and uneven floor.
  3. The product is used at temperatures that are too high or too low.
  4. Unit is moved violently when the brake is activated or when the brake is used to decelerate.
  5. The product may be affected by particularly aggressive substances.
  6. Product is affected by abnormally heavy loads due to impact or falling.
  7. Foreign objects may penetrate the press-on belt.
  8. The wheels and castors are operated at excessive speed.
  9. Modifications are made that are not approved by the manufacturer.
  10. The wheels and castors are subjected to mechanical damage due to external factors or collision.
  11. Application of excessive lateral forces.

Locking of our lockable castors of all series is not intended to secure transport and loading in trucks, cars or similar means of transport. Violation of this instruction may result in damage to the locking function.

3.0 Product performance

If no specific information on product performance is provided on our website or in our catalogues, brochures, service descriptors, etc., you should contact us to determine whether our wheels and castors or their components meet your requirements. Please refer to the relevant DIN, ISO and EN standards for guidelines. Customer-specific designs may differ from the requirements defined in the relevant standards.

Unlike the standard approach for wheels and castors, the braking forces of castors with braking systems are designed to provide the optimum balance between high braking forces and low operating forces.

4.0 Product maintenance

Recommended annual maintenance/inspection:

  1. Lubricant should be added once a year to products with a grease nipple until a small amount of lubricant comes out of the bearings. We recommend using a versatile calcium complex-based lubricant (such as Renolit CX-EP 2) with a temperature range between -20 °F (-30°C) and +285 °F (+140°C). We recommend using a different lubricant if the product is used under different application conditions.
  2. Check that all screw connections are properly tightened.
  3. Check that the wheel, swivel head, lock, swivel lock, brakes and other options function properly.
  4. Check wheel bearing and swivel head play, preferably according to DIN EN 12530 to 12533 (ISO 22881 to ISO 22884).
  5. Check the air pressure of pneumatic tyres according to our website or catalogue.
  6. Inspect solid rubber tyres and profiles for wear and abrasion. As a guideline: maximum wear < 1/2 the tread thickness.

Cleaning agents should only be used if they do not contain substances that can cause damage or corrosion. Castors and their components should be replaced as soon as they begin to malfunction.

5.0 Product conformity

Up-to-date information on directives and standards related to product safety requirements and technical market access requirements (e.g. ATEX, REACh, RoHS, PAH/GS) is available at www.Konijnenburg.com.
